Loomscreen Docs

Introduction

Loomscreen is a free, open-source macOS live wallpaper app that brings your displays, wallpapers and desktop overlays into one visual workspace.

See every display, drag a wallpaper into place, and arrange widgets, clock and music on one canvas. Loomscreen plays video, web and Apple Aerials wallpapers. Pro adds an independent Metal renderer for Wallpaper Engine scenes and Steam Workshop.

Lite and Pro are both free and open source under the MIT license. Neither edition needs a Loomscreen account, and neither sends usage telemetry.

Choose an edition

EditionWallpapersRequirements
LiteVideo, web pages, Apple AerialsmacOS 14.6+. Apple Silicon; the Intel build is untested.
ProEverything in Lite, plus Wallpaper Engine scenes and Steam WorkshopmacOS 14.6+. Apple Silicon only.

Both editions share the workspace, overlay canvas, automation and power rules. See Lite vs Pro for the full matrix.

How Loomscreen fits together

  • Menu bar — everyday control: global on/off, per-display playback and volume, playlist navigation and a CPU / GPU / RAM / thermal strip.
  • Management window — Overview, Wallpaper Library, Schemes, System Wallpaper macOS 26+, Workshop Pro and Settings.
  • Display editor — tune playback for one display and arrange its overlays on a shared canvas.

Closing the management window keeps wallpapers running. See Workspace.
