Quick answers to common questions. Each answer links to the page with full details.
Is Loomscreen free? What is the difference between Lite and Pro?
Yes. Lite and Pro are both free and open source under the MIT license. Lite plays video, web and Apple Aerials wallpapers and includes the full workspace, overlays, automation and power rules. Pro adds Wallpaper Engine scene rendering, Steam Workshop, scene presets and system audio capture. See Lite vs Pro.
Does it work on Intel Macs?
Lite ships for both Apple Silicon and Intel, but the Intel build has never been tested on Intel hardware. The most likely gap is blank readings in the monitor board. Pro supports Apple Silicon only. Both editions require macOS 14.6 or later. See Intel Macs.
Why does macOS say the app cannot be opened?
Current public packages use Apple Development signing and are not notarized, so Gatekeeper may block a manual download. First verify the DMG against its published checksum. If the verified copy is still blocked, clear quarantine with the command for your edition. See If macOS refuses to open the download.
How does Loomscreen relate to Wallpaper Engine? Will every scene run?
Loomscreen Pro has its own Metal renderer for Wallpaper Engine scene projects. It is an independent implementation, not affiliated with Wallpaper Engine. Compatibility varies by project and feature, and there is no guarantee that a project renders exactly as it does on Windows. Windows executable wallpapers are not supported. See Compatibility.
Can I use the Workshop in mainland China?
The Workshop needs a connection to the Steam Community. The Steam Community is usually not directly reachable from mainland China. Importing local scene folders does not depend on it, and Loomscreen reads those folders in place. See Add a scene and Steam Workshop.
Does Loomscreen collect my data?
Loomscreen has no account and sends no usage telemetry. Optional online features contact their own services: Steam, weather, artwork and lyrics, and updates. Remote web wallpapers can contact their own sites. Your Steam Web API key is stored in the login Keychain. See Updates & privacy.
What is System Wallpaper?
System Wallpaper publishes supported videos to the macOS wallpaper provider on macOS 26 and later. You select them in macOS Wallpaper settings, and they can keep playing with Loomscreen closed. It supports video only and does not include scenes, web wallpapers or overlays. Availability depends on the provider's compatibility check. See System Wallpaper.
How do I uninstall Loomscreen?
Quit Loomscreen from the menu bar and move the app to the Trash.
