Updates & privacy

Loomscreen needs no account and sends no usage telemetry. Learn how Sparkle updates work and which optional features go online.

Loomscreen does not require a Loomscreen account and does not send usage telemetry. Some optional features contact online services. Updates arrive through Sparkle with signed payloads.

No account, no telemetry

Neither edition requires a Loomscreen account.
Neither edition sends usage telemetry.
Workshop likes are stored locally.

Lyrics are off by default.
Web wallpapers you create can use the network according to their settings.
Web content imported from the Workshop uses ephemeral storage and network isolation.

Steam account and API key

Workshop downloads use your own Steam account and license.
New Steam Web API keys are saved in your login Keychain.
Older keys stored in a file move to the Keychain after a verified Keychain write. If the move is refused, the old file can remain.
.lwconfig backups do not include Steam credentials or API keys.

Permissions

macOS asks for a permission only when a feature needs it. Location is requested when weather uses System location; manual location or Off avoids it. Lite does not capture system audio. See System permission prompts.

How updates work

Both editions use Sparkle with separate HTTPS appcasts and signed update payloads.
Scheduled checks can show Sparkle's update dialog.
The menu-bar Update button and Settings → About also open the update flow.
Sparkle handles download and installation, including relaunch.
Settings → General controls automatic checking. An enabled check is not consent to install.

Reporting problems

Settings → About → Report a Bug pre-fills diagnostics and recent log lines. Add reproduction steps and file an issue on GitHub Issues. Report security issues through the security policy in the GitHub repository, not the public tracker.
