Power & performance
Control when Loomscreen pauses and how hard it renders, with power-saving pause rules, per-app exceptions and a configurable frame-rate ceiling.
Loomscreen pauses wallpapers when the system needs it or when your rules say so. You choose the rules in Settings → Performance. A per-display frame-rate ceiling limits how often each wallpaper draws.
Pause rules
Loomscreen keeps your own play/pause choice separate from system pauses. There are two kinds of automatic pause:
| Kind | Triggers | Can you override it? |
|---|---|---|
| Safety suspends | Screen lock or sleep, critical memory pressure, critical thermal state | No |
| Configurable rules | Full-screen apps, window occlusion, battery, Low Power Mode, per-app rules | Yes, in Settings → Performance |
Under moderate thermal pressure, Loomscreen lowers scene and web frame rates and can suspend video.
Per-app exceptions
Add app exceptions in Settings → Performance. A never pause rule keeps the wallpaper running for that app. It overrides only the configurable rules, never the safety suspends.
See why a wallpaper paused
The menu bar and the display's status name the rule that is holding a wallpaper. If a wallpaper keeps pausing, check that reason first. See Troubleshooting.
Manual pause
A pause you start yourself, from a display or the global toggle, persists.
- It holds through property edits, automatic rotation, unplugging and reconnecting the display, and relaunch.
- Pressing play, or picking a wallpaper for that display, clears it.
- A paused display keeps a still frame. After a while it releases more resources.
- Configuration backups do not carry the pause.
Frame-rate ceiling
Each display has a frame-rate ceiling in its Wallpaper tab. Settings → Display Defaults sets the default.
- Enter a whole number from 1 up to the display's current refresh rate, or choose Max.
- Presets include 15, 24, 30, 45, 60 and 120 where the display supports them.
- The value is a ceiling, not a measurement of achieved frames.
Performance settings
| Setting | Edition |
|---|---|
| Pause rules and app exceptions | Both |
| Video RAM preload budget, per display | Both |
| Adaptive scene frame rate | Pro |
| Per-display render threads | Pro |
| MetalFX upscaling and HDR output, on supported hardware | Pro |
Changing the preload budget trades RAM for disk and decoder work.
Wallpapers on external drives
Video and local web wallpapers can live on an external drive. When the drive is unmounted, the display keeps its configuration. When the drive mounts again, the affected displays reload on their own. Use Reload display if one does not.
