Playlists, schedules & shortcuts
Rotate wallpapers with playlists, switch them by time of day, shuffle your whole library, and control playback from the menu bar or shortcuts.
Wallpaper Automation changes a display's wallpaper for you. Each display can run a playlist, a daily schedule or a shuffle of your whole library. The menu bar and global shortcuts give you quick control on top.
Open Wallpaper Automation
Open a display in Overview, then open Wallpaper Automation from the display's top bar. The sheet has three modes:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Playlist | Plays a list you build, in order or shuffled, manually or on a timer. |
| Daily Schedule | Plays a chosen wallpaper in each time slot of the day. |
| Library Shuffle | Picks a random wallpaper from your whole library on a timer. |
The sheet is a draft editor. Save commits your changes. Cancel discards them and restores the setup from before trial playback.
Playlists
- Choose Playlist.
- Add wallpapers from the library. Video, web and, in Pro, scene entries can join.
- Use each row's arrows to reorder it. Its play button tries it on this display. Its remove button takes it out of the queue.
- Choose Manual, or a rotation interval of 1, 5, 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes.
- Optionally turn on Shuffle.
- Click Save.
Displays running a playlist also get previous and next controls in the menu bar.
Daily Schedule
Slots sit on a 24-hour schedule dial.
- Select a slot to pick its wallpaper and hours.
- Drag the ends of a slot's arc to change its hours.
- Double-click an empty hour to add a slot.
- A slot can cross midnight.
- Overlapping slots show an error and block saving.
- Unscheduled Hours sets the wallpaper for hours that no slot covers.
Save and Use Daily Schedule switches the display to this mode.
Automation pauses while you are away, when the screen is locked or the display sleeps. On wake it catches up once. It does not replay the slots you missed.
Library Shuffle
Library Shuffle needs no list. It picks a random wallpaper from your whole library at the interval you choose.
- New imports join the shuffle automatically.
- The same wallpaper never plays twice in a row.
- Next Random Wallpaper skips ahead.
Countdowns and skipped wallpapers
- The rotation countdown starts over when you pick a wallpaper yourself, apply a scheme or apply a Workshop item (Pro).
- While you are away, playlist and shuffle countdowns freeze. They continue from what was left when you return.
- A wallpaper stored on a drive that is not mounted is passed over for that turn. It is not marked as skipped.
Skipped wallpapers
A wallpaper that fails to load is retried once, then skipped. Skipped wallpapers in the automation sheet lists each one with its reason: missing file, failed load or load timeout. Fix the source, then click Enable Again.
Menu bar controls
The menu bar icon controls playback without opening the management window:
- A global switch turns all wallpapers on or off.
- Each display has play/pause and volume.
- Displays running a playlist show previous and next.
- Reload and quit sit in the same menu.
Global shortcuts
Settings → Shortcuts has a master switch and eight actions you can bind:
- Play/pause all
- Next wallpaper (display under the cursor)
- Previous wallpaper (display under the cursor)
- Toggle mute
- Toggle mouse interaction
- Show/hide all wallpapers
- Reload all wallpapers
