Overlay canvas

Arrange system widgets, a Nixie clock and Now Playing on one canvas per display, and add particle effects and weather response.

Each display has its own overlay canvas. It brings widgets, a clock and music together in one editor. Overlays can accompany video, web or scene wallpapers.

The overlay canvas

  1. Open a display from Overview and switch the editor to Overlays.
  2. Click Add Widget to open the palette. Click an item to add it at a free spot, or drag it onto the canvas.
  3. Select objects in the layer list or the preview. Move and resize them in the preview.
  4. Adjust the selected object in the object inspector.

The palette includes eleven widget types plus independent music and clock layers. Particles and weather response live in the effect layer.

Sample Data lets you check a layout. It does not claim to show current readings.

Particles, the monitor board and the music layer can also run over the macOS desktop without an active Loomscreen wallpaper.

Clicks and interaction

With widget interaction enabled, only visible widget areas receive desktop clicks. Empty desktop areas stay click-through. Clock and music controls keep their own interaction behavior. In the overlay editor, you can always select and move objects.

Monitor board widgets

The monitor board offers eleven widget types:

WidgetShows
System OverviewOne medium or large panel for CPU, memory, GPU, network throughput, disk I/O and power. Large adds history curves and optional temperature and fan readings.
CPU, Memory, GPU, Network, Disk, Power, ProcessesIndividual system readings.
Agent SessionStatus read from local Claude Code and Codex session records.
ANE MemoryMemory use. It does not report neural-engine utilization.
WeatherA sky scene with a condition and place caption, day/night appearance, clouds, precipitation and wind.
  • Widgets support small, medium and large sizes where available.
  • You can drag to arrange them, scale them per display, set options, and import or export a layout.
  • The board can sit on the desktop or above windows.
  • Unavailable readings are shown as unavailable, not as zero. Histories keep sampling gaps.
  • Network and disk totals are estimates for the current monitoring session.

Settings → Overlays sets widget tint, opacity and Liquid Glass macOS 26+ for all widget panels, plus the temperature unit.

Clock

The clock is an independent, transparent Nixie clock with a metal base and glass separators.

  • Drag to place it and resize it freely.
  • Choose 12- or 24-hour time, an hour leading zero, opacity and separator blinking.
  • It has its own display switch and layer.
  • It pauses while hidden.

Music and Now Playing

  1. Select Music in the add palette or the layer list.
  2. Enable the layer.
  3. Pick a layout: Poster, Vinyl or Aurora.
  4. Drag it into place in the preview.
  5. Choose whether to show controls and lyrics.
  • Track changes come from Spotify and Apple Music. Accent colors come from the cover art.
  • Playback buttons, seeking and Apple Music progress need macOS Automation permission for Spotify or Music.
  • Without a usable playhead or timed lyrics, the layer falls back instead of inventing timing.
  • Lyrics are off by default. Optional lyrics come from LRCLIB over HTTPS.
  • In Pro, Audio Response adds visual effects driven by system audio, including Wave.

Particles and weather response

The effect layer holds particles and weather response.

Particle effects

Twelve effects: Snow, Rain, Bokeh, Fireflies, Dust, Stars, Leaves, Sakura, Mist, Embers, Bubbles and Meteors. Some effects follow the wind. Particles respect Reduce Motion, and you can control whether they appear in screen captures.

Weather response

Weather response uses Open-Meteo conditions to choose particles and adjust video. It is separate from the Weather widget.

  1. Open Settings → Integrations → Weather.
  2. Choose System location or a manual location.

System location asks for macOS Location permission. See permission prompts.
