Wallpaper Engine scenes

Loomscreen Pro renders Wallpaper Engine scene projects with an independent Metal renderer, with scene presets and multi-display spans.

Loomscreen Pro plays Wallpaper Engine scene projects with its own native Metal renderer. You can import local project folders or download scenes from the Steam Workshop. Compatibility varies by project.

Scenes are a Pro feature. Pro requires Apple Silicon. Lite does not include the scene renderer.

Compatibility

Loomscreen is an independent implementation. It is not affiliated with Wallpaper Engine, and it does not guarantee that every Windows project renders identically.

  • Support varies by project and by feature.
  • Import checks and runtime errors describe unsupported content or missing assets.
  • Windows executable wallpapers are not supported.

What the renderer supports

  • Layered scenes
  • Particles
  • Puppet-warp animation
  • Text
  • SceneScript
  • Audio response
  • Cursor effects

Scene shaders are translated to Metal as part of the scene. They are not a separate wallpaper type.

Add a scene

  • Drag a Wallpaper Engine project onto a display in Overview.
  • Link a local project folder. Loomscreen reads it in place.
  • Download a scene from the Workshop. See Steam Workshop.

A project folder needs a project.json. A library folder contains project subfolders. If an import fails, read the reported failure. See Troubleshooting.

Scene settings

In the display editor, the Wallpaper tab shows the scene author's custom properties and the Preset row.

  • Click interaction lets a scene receive mouse clicks. Turn it off for a display if desktop clicks feel blocked.
  • Audio Response in Settings → Integrations captures system audio for scene effects. macOS asks for system audio recording permission.
  • Pro adds adaptive scene frame rates and per-display render threads. See Power & performance.

Scene presets

A preset is a saved set of one wallpaper's own settings. It can also carry the color correction and volume its author chose.

How presets layer

Scene defaults, a preset and your own edits are separate layers. A preset sits on the scene's defaults. Your tweaks sit on top of the preset. Anything you change afterwards stays yours, and deleting the preset keeps your changes.

Use the Preset row

  • The row separates Saved by you from From the Workshop.
  • Its menu offers Save as New Preset, Rename and Delete preset.
  • When the applied preset is one you saved and you have changed values since, the menu also offers Update “name”.

Presets from the Workshop

A wallpaper's Workshop detail page lists the presets its community has published. Download one and it appears in the Preset row. Listing presets needs a Steam Web API key. Without a key, the page links to them on Steam.

Settings → Workshop → Show presets as wallpapers is off by default. Turn it on to include presets in the general browse grid. See Workshop setup.

Color correction and volume

Preset color correction runs over the full frame when it is on and not neutral. Its curves follow Loomscreen's video controls; they do not claim exact Wallpaper Engine parity. Preset volume multiplies the display's volume.

Span across displays

Span All Displays stretches one scene across your displays.

  • When a display joins or leaves, the scene is laid out again over the remaining displays.
  • Switching one of those displays to video or web takes it out of the span.
  • Applying a scheme never adds a display to a span.
  • Fit, mute and volume changes also reach span displays that are disconnected.
